TET is compulsory from ninth to twelfth! NCTE proposes new rules for teacher recruitment

TET Exam Mandatory

TET Exam Mandatory: The central government is preparing to take a major decision to improve the education system.  The National Council for Teacher Education has proposed new rules for teacher recruitment.  As per the proposal, TET has been made compulsory from secondary level i.e. class IX to higher secondary i.e. class XII.  Passing TET (Teacher Eligibility Test/TET) will also be made mandatory for recruitment of teachers from classes 9 to 12.  It is expected to be implemented from the academic year 2024-25.  Till now TET is mandatory for teachers up to class VIII.  Initially this decision will be implemented only at the central level.  Later it will be introduced at the state level as well.

The National Teacher Education Council has announced the Teacher Eligibility Test on Monday.  This announcement was made at the national conference.  A one-day national conference on National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) was organized.  A brainstorming session was held to discuss the necessary reforms in view of NEP.  Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) has been announced.  This decision has been taken with CBSE.  For now it will be introduced at the central level.  After that it will be implemented in each state in a phased manner.

The National Council for Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) made the announcement at its national conference held on Monday.  President of the council Prof. Yogesh Sah said, "The education system should focus on the development and values of students rather than on marks. This is possible only when the teachers are suitable."

NCTE Secretary Kesang Y Sherpa will also conduct TET from next academic year in recruitment of 9th to 12th class teachers in schools.  Preparations are going on fast in this regard.  He also said that NCTE is working on the proposal and implementation of TET at secondary level.

CBSE Chairperson, IAS Nidhi Chibbar said, "Eligibility of a teacher creates an effective environment in the classroom. Hence Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) plays a very important role in understanding the competence and skills of a teacher. CBSE has been conducting TET exam for a long time, so  They have vast experience. Yes, we will share TET data with NCTE and implement future plans together."

Incidentally, till now TET was compulsory from class I to class VIII.  This time NCTE has planned to make eligibility test mandatory for all teachers up to class 12th.  Guidance on this may come soon.
