Teacher Recruitment

Teacher Recruitment: Maharashtra Government announces recruitment of 21,678 teacher posts in 1,258 schools across the state.  A total of over 1.36 lakh eligible candidates applied for the job, which is six times more than the available posts.  Maharashtra government wants to appoint teachers with merit and transparency.

The recruitment process has been started on a specially designed portal Pavitra to ensure transparency and a total of 1,36,795 job aspirants have applied.  The number is expected to increase further as the department extends the application period by one day.

Noting that there is such a large recruitment of teachers after almost a decade, Sushil Shejule, educationist and head of the Marathi School Management Association, said, “The number shows how many are looking forward to work as teachers.  But many of them are going to be disappointed.  The government should announce a timetable for teacher recruitment so that the maximum number of eligible applicants get jobs, not make candidates wait for so long and then disappoint a large section of them.”

A senior official of the department, however, said, “The government expected this huge number of applicants as the number of eligible applicants for this recruitment is more than two lakh.  Competition will ensure that the best candidates get appointed as teachers.”

Most, a total of 18,373 vacancies are in Marathi medium schools.  This is followed by 1,850 posts in Urdu medium schools.  There are 931 posts in English medium schools and 410 posts in Hindi medium schools.  In rest there are less than 100 vacancies available.  Tamil, Bengali and Telugu medium schools have only single digit vacancies.
