BED VS DELED PRIMARY TEACHER RECRUITMENT
WBSSC: Directorate of Public Instruction (DPI) Madhya Pradesh has challenged the recruitment of 15,000 BEd degree holders for primary schools in the High Court. The petitioners claim that this is contrary to the Supreme Court order, which disqualified job candidates who have done BED. The Supreme Court said BED degree holders are not eligible for the post of primary teachers.
The Principal Bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in Jabalpur on Monday took up the case of Diploma Holders in Primary Education (D.ELEd.) in connection with recruitment of primary teachers in Madhya Pradesh.
Advocate Rameshwar Thakur appearing for the petitioner said, “The Supreme Court has clearly stated that B.Ed. Holders are ineligible for the post of primary school teacher. But still, DPI has recruited around 15,000 BED candidates for the post of primary teachers.”
The High Court has also directed other diploma holders to be part of the petition. Thakur said that the next hearing will be held on September 14.
The Supreme Court (SC) in its order noted that as per NCET, the prescribed qualification for a teacher in primary school was Diploma in Elementary Education (D. L. Ed.), and not any other educational qualification including B Ed. BED candidates are ineligible for primary school teacher posts, advocates said.
He also claimed that on August 11, the Supreme Court bench had said that B.Ed degree holders did not possess the basic educational qualifications required for teaching in primary classes and therefore would be unable to impart 'standard' education to primary school students.
